The Crosses

I wanted to create a sculpture group of crosses rising to the space, even better, that were in space. And why eight crosses and not seven or nine? When I started the work I had not thought about the number of crosses; I just wanted to build a group in which all of them, with their support, would be different. The cross is the symbol of Christendom, but it is at the same time the symbol of LOVE. And sometimes love, maybe too often, is also suffering. We each one carry “our cross”, which does not have to be a heavy burden; LOVE is no burden, love is happiness, so the Cross can become joy.

So, why eight crosses then? After finishing the sculpture group, I realized that I had done eight crosses; the number eight (∞ 8) – in horizontal is the symbol of infinite – has no beginning and no end, the number 8 symbolizes the balance of all the cosmos, the equilibrium in space. In the void, the number 8 fills; it is the symbol of the resurrection of Christ.
